What we are (and what we're not)

HomeGrotto is a roofing referral service. We are not a roofing contractor and we do not hold a contractor license. We don't climb on roofs, we don't write estimates, and we don't pull permits. We're the front door — the contractors we refer you to are the people doing the work.

We only refer independent local roofers who meet a clear bar: a current Virginia Class A or B contractor license, active general liability and workers' comp insurance, a verified local address in the Piedmont, manufacturer certifications where relevant, and a real track record of completed jobs nearby. (This describes our standard — what a roofer must meet to be referred — not a claim about a pre-existing roster.)

Why we built this

Most roofing horror stories share a pattern: a homeowner Googled at midnight, got three callbacks from out-of-state crews, and signed a contingency contract under pressure before they'd seen a real bid. HomeGrotto exists to skip that — to put a neighbor between you and the chaos.

What every roofer we refer must meet

• Current VA Class A or B contractor license, verified at the state DPOR registry.
• Active general liability ($1M+) and workers' comp insurance, with current certificates.
• Manufacturer certification (GAF, Owens Corning, CertainTeed, or equivalent metal certifications).
• Local address and verified history in the Piedmont — no PO boxes, no out-of-state HQs.

Who writes the expert content

The roofing and insurance guides on this site are written to be genuinely useful, not to sell you. Before we attribute any guide to a named expert, it's reviewed by a licensed professional in the relevant field — a Virginia-licensed roofer for roofing guidance, and a licensed Virginia insurance agent or public adjuster for insurance questions. Until a guide carries an expert's name, treat it as general information, not legal or insurance advice, and confirm specifics with your own contractor or insurer.

How we make money

HomeGrotto is paid by the contractor we refer you to when a referral becomes a paid job. It's never paid by the homeowner. We don't sell your information to multiple contractors — each match goes to one vetted local pro who can actually take the work.
